Another Goofy Named Blog

Before I started Cog Dis eight months ago, I agonized over the name for a long time. It got to the point where I was also afraid of driving my friends batty as I bounced ideas off of them. (Sorry again, Tom.) I didn't want something that seemed mundane, like Capper's Blog. I also wanted something that reflected something about me. So Cog Dis was born. The Cognitive came from my background in psychology, and the Dissidence came from my love to debate, or argue, if you will.

I also found it a fun play on words. You should see how many hits I get for people searching the definition of "cognitive dissonance," which is almost completely opposite of my title.

Unfortunately, there are some people with websites that named their places in a way that has nothing to deal with reality.

Charlie Sykes calls his site Sykes Writes, but he never writes anything. He only links and/or copies and pastes.

Fred Dooley calls his place Real Debate Wisconsin, but he doesn't put up with much debate. If anyone dares to dissent, he either bans them outright, or just keeps erasing their comments.

Now there is another inanely named one. There is no realistic connection between Alderman Bob Donovan and Common Sense.

  1. Howdy Capper,

I have always found that because we are all different, male, female, bald, tall or skinny, and different in many other ways that common sense is particularly uncommon. Ronald Raygun always used to yalk about common sense as a virtue. I always thought that it was a good litmus test for whether i was going to agree with someone or not. Not.

  3. Fred, is that you? I'm not allowed on your blog, so I'll ask here. When did I yell and scream? If someone presents a view that shows the flaws in yours, is that "sapping all the fun out of everything"? Why would that make me a radical lefty? If Gus/Mickey's name-calling uses capital letters, is that considered yelling and screaming or being an ass? From now on, based on your description, I think we should call your blog "Real Debate Wisconsin, A Major Failure."

  4. Fred, that is just an outright lie.

Even when people are respectful, but prove you wrong, you tantrum and kick them out. But then you let gus/mickey sit there and do the very same thing that you complain about, without even a blink.

Scott Feldstein, Foust, folkbum, third way, and all the rest have been booted from your place, but they have not been booted anywhere else. Not to mention all of the other bloggers, even right wingers, that have called you on your hypocrisy, and yet you won't accept the reality of it when it is staring you in the face.

    Truly remarkable.

  5. Truly lies Chris.

Feldstein got kicked for telling lies...

3rd Way for being an ass (He apologized)

    Foust for being, well Foust.

And you, well you take the cake.

  6. Said the man that deleted yet another one of my comments.

What was wrong with pointing out that Clarke did ask the MKE Co. Board for stimulus money for his department. Heck, he even submitted his own request to the state earlier this year.

Only in your world, Fred, does truth equal lies. I guess it's not fun to have your lies and misrepresentations pointed out. And do I really need to go and list all of your yelling and screaming? Does that mean you're a radical lefty, as you said at AFP?

  7. Too often, Fred's idea of "real debate" consists of childish name calling.

  8. Fred, I'm truly sad that you did not reach your goal of creating "a place where people from the right and people from the left could come together and discuss the issues of the day amicably." It would be nice if there was a forum like that. How hard have you worked at your goal? What did you do to promote your goal? What worked, what didn't? What can we do to help? At what point did you give up and decide it should be a place where name-calling was considered a good thing and that a diversity of viewpoints wasn't, oh, "fun" any more? Does this failure correlate with any particular action in the Bush administration? Or did you simply want it to fail?

And Fred, you skipped Gus/Mickey. Tell us why you don't toss him. Is he a fun generator? And anyone who complains about him is sapping all the fun? If you've reprimanded him in private, does that imply that he's now behaving within your guidelines? If you have any insight into his behavior, perhaps you can explain why he behaves even more poorly over at Badger Blogger.

Capper - I'm still banned from the Boots & Sabers ranch, of course, but that was probably Wendy's call. Wigderson temporarily booted me for a few weeks not long ago when I disparaged the overconsumption of alcohol. DiGaudio booted me for a long time but eventually even he allowed me back and he also apologized for saying I'd like to have sex with a horse.

  9. Hey Foust...are you still using other bloggers' names and actually impersonating them on blogs? Gus has you down perfectly...loser.

  10. Hi Anon! I've always used my real name. You have evidence to the contrary? And is his name Gus or Mickey?

  11. I do know that there are some that used to hang around the Racine Journal Times blogs that liked to sockpuppet. Also some from the CommunityNow sites.

Funny thing, they are all conservatives.

  12. capper...there is a huge difference between using more than one name which I have noticed a lot of bloggers do on different forums (including you) which isn't sockpuppetry and stealing a blogger's established name and then making comments using the stolen name and then actually pretending to be the other blogger in the comments written under the stolen name.

  13. And...might I add any blogger who knows that another blogger is doing this kind of crap and doesn't speak up about it is just as bad the blogger who is doing the impersonating whether they are liberals or conservatives. It's just a method used by cowards to bully someone into silence.

  14. Considering that I do use my real name, I've never been tempted to use an alias or go anonymous. Anon is reproducing a smear because he thinks it's funny to do so. As I'd say with anyone making a claim, show me! Owen made an offhand claim that I'd done so, but he supplied no proof. Considering that he's the only one who would've had any proof (say, postings tied to an IP address) he's the only one who could justify his claim. You might as well pull a Gus/Mickey and make fun of my forehead. Or as my kids say, it's so big it's a five-head.
