GOP: Grumpy Oafs Projecting

The new conservative mantra appears to deal with projection, the psychological phenomenon in which they project the thing they most dislike about themselves onto others.

For example, during the 2008 elections, any time a liberal would point out one of the errors, slip ups, faux pas or just plain foolish comments by Sarah Palin, the right would try to label the "offender" as being sexist. But they don't seem to be having a problem attacking SCOTUS nominee Sonia Sotomayer because simply because she is proud of her heritage, calling her a racist because she uses a dialect that she grew up in. That, to me, seems like an awfully weak point to attack on. They don't attack people from the south for their drawls, or people from New Yawk or Bahstahn for their accents or idioms. Must be sexism.

Another fine example would be the faux outrage when President Obama made his unfortunate remark comparing his bowling skills, or lack thereof, to the Special Olympians*. For several days, they harped on it, and even now, someone will make the occasional reference to it. I wonder how long it will be before someone makes a comment about this post from Tom McCahon. All I know is that I won't be holding my breath for it.

*The state's Special Olympics summer games are being held in Stevens Point this weekend. Those poor athletes seem to never catch a break from the weather.
