It's About Time

Wisconsin Attorney General J. B. Van Hollen has finally followed up on his promise to get involved in the legal proceedings aimed at stopping the invasive Asian Carp.

He only promised to do this a couple of weeks, and three states, ago.

Mayor Tom Barrett, recognizing the danger, has been pushing for Wisconsin to do this a long time now.

As far as I can tell, neither of the two major Republican candidates have said a word about it.

And if there is any doubt on how invasive species can affect our economy, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has a story about how zebra mussels have caused a chub shortage, making them much harder to find, and doubling their price. And the mussels are a much milder threat than the carp are.

  1. Doubling the price of chubs? And that will affect how many people? What, it went from 3 cents a pound to 6 cents a pound?

  2. So, you're OK with all those fishermen going out of business because they can't catch enough chubs? Why are you against small business, Dan?

  3. OK, capper. JB can only, repeat, only file this lawsuit upon either Jim Doyle asking him to do so or the state legislature. In this case, on Dec. 19, 2009 the STATE legislature authorized him to do so. So, blame the Democratic controlled legislature for this, not JB.

  4. Mmm, anonymous, it strikes me that JB has filed things without approval. After all, what would be the purpose of having an independently elected AG if he cannot act autonomously?

But for that argument, he was authorized to investigate Scott Walker for fraud, but has not done so. Now why would that be?
