Michael Steele's Job Is Secure

Michael Steele, head of the RNC, has been a gaffe machine that makes Vice President Joe Biden or former President George Bush look like pikers in comparison.

His latest foible involved calling the war in Afghanistan a war that Obama chose and that our troops should be pulled out. (I have stated in the past that the Afghanistanian War was the just war and should have been the one pursued instead of Bush's decision to go into Iraq.) Steele was severely criticized by some of his fellow Republicans, with some even calling for his resignation.

But Steele doesn't need to worry about losing his job any time soon.

For the cast of characters being touted as possible replacements isn't all that impressive. One of the more likely candidates is Steele's supporter and aide, and head of the Wisconsin Republican Cotillion, Reince Priebus.

Priebus has shown himself to be as skillful in public relations and truth telling has his mentor.

During the Bucyrus affair, Priebus sent out a press release blasting Senator Russ Feingold for not doing anything to help the situation.

The problem with Priebus' release is that fact that he is dead wrong about the whole thing. So wrong, in fact, that Tim Sullivan, CEO of Bucyrus, sent out his own letter to Priebus pointing out that Feingold was indeed a supporter of Bucyrus and did a lot in the eventually successful effort to allow the deal to go through, saving 1,000 jobs.

Maybe Priebus was hoping that if he made enough noise, no one would notice that his gubernatorial champion, Scott Walker, not only didn't help in the situation, but actually tried to use it to score some cheap political points.

Adding to Priebus' List of Oopsies, is the fact that he was still touting Walker's phony campaign promise of saving money by cutting imaginary workers, even though it was shown that Walker's promise was not only empty, but hypocritical as well.

And I won't even get into the whole issue of Ron "BP" Johnson.

With people like Priebus and Sarah Palin being listed as potential successors, Steele has not much too worry about regarding his job safety goes.
